Great for quick meal
One or more of us eats here about once a week. The food is good, but not quite Mexican. I guess it's Tex Mex or some combination. The quesadillas, always a favorite in our family, are ample enought to feed two of the kids. The burrito is big enough for Joe and the steak quesadilla is my favorite. I've never had a bad meal here.
Xave and I actually had dinner here this evening while we waited for another one of the kids to get done with an appointment.
They have beer and margaritas. If you're not a drinker try the limeade, basically the margarita without tequila, again a favorite of mine. The kids love orangina...something they can't get every where.
Basically this is a place that you're going to go when you want to eat out, like Joe does, and you can't quite get it together to dress up.
For me a Mexican resturant lives and dies by it's chips. At Mesa Verde they are always freshly cooked, crisp, with the rich earthy flavor of corn. Interestingly, the chips come in two sizes, with no refills but one can have as many refills of salsa as needed to liven up the meal.
Ultimately the menu breaks down into three separate categories tacos, burritos and quesadillas, enchiladas, and bowls. It's been so long ago that I sampled the tacos that I've forgotten what they were like. The burritos are enough for two people to share with large chips and salsa. The quesadillas, like I said earlier, are enough for two kids to share easily. Daysh and Xave like the chicken, Xave doesn't like the sour cream, so Dash eats the three or so pieces that have touched the sour cream garnish. I've had the enchilada's here, but again I can't remember them at all...it's been awhile.
The bowls are something interesting. Basically they're the filling of a burrito placed on a bowl of rice. The presentation is nice, with little mounds of beans, pico de gallo, and what ever protine you've selected. I had this for dinner and it was more that enough for me.
The dining arealooks much like it has through several different resturants that have been here. There are three, and in summer four distinct seating areas. The church windows are still there, the kids like to see if they can read the names of the various benefactors. In the part of the dining room called the chapel you actually sit in old church pews. In the side room there are three or four tables with chairs around them. In the main dining area there are maybe four or five tables and a comfortable looking couch with a coffee table. They have a selection of high chairs and booster seats.
You have order from a counter and get your own drinks and sets. They bring the food out to you, which is nice and you have to bus your own tables. They provide water and shriracha hot sauce.
Luckly for me they accept credit cards, because I never travel with cash.
